At this year's unveiling of the 2008 Indy Pace car at the Indianapolis Auto Show, it was announced that production of the 500 Replica Pace cars would begin sometime in April of this year, and the cars would be in showrooms, and new owner's hands, prior to the May race.

Well, it seems that Chevrolet is going to keep their word! Here is the story of a special tour by some special people!

This year's Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Driver, and two-time Indy 500 Champion Emerson Fittipaldi made a visit to the Corvette Plant for a personal tour and to sign the center console doors for the new Pace Cars being offered for sale to the public.

After signing and numbering no less than 500 center console doors, the next stop was a visit to the National Corvette Museum for a special tour.

Fittipaldi, along with the group, was given a guided tour and enjoyed lunch at the Museum. “This is my first time to the plant and Museum and I can feel the passion for this sports car,” said Fittipaldi. “The new Pace Cars are beautiful and so much fun to drive. What a muscle car the Corvette is.”

Many guests visiting the Museum had a chance to get a quick autograph and enjoyed watching from a distance as the legendary racer took in the sites and sounds of Corvette.

Former Corvette Plant Manager Wil Cooksey (left in photo) also stopped by for this memorable event. Mr. Cooksey now begins his new role as Chairman Of The Board for the National Corvette Museum.

Chevrolet even brought over Pace Car Replica # 002 to the Museum for a photo opportunity. This car is destined for Indy as one of the Event support vehicles.
